The lid is hinged securely with a gold color piano-style hinge and stays securely shut with a powerful magnetic closing mechanism. The black insert provides contrast to the coin to be displayed while at the same time snugly holding the slab in place. A clear window in top allows for viewing of the obverse of the coin even when the lid is closed.
